Family Farms

We are committed to family farmers that choose certified organic and other growing methods that ensure the soil and planet health is of first consideration.

We are proponents of organics and regenerative agriculture. Our produce department is all organic with a handful of wild, seasonal items.

For 25 years our produce category manager Frank Sarro has visited our CNF Family Farmers. The value of buying direct helps shrink the distance from field to plate considerably. The face-to-face communication deepens the relationship which encourages conversations to be had regarding some challenges that the farmers are facing and ways that Community Natural Foods can assist. The producers we work with are very proud of what they provide and are happy to have a close relationship with retailers like Community Natural Foods. When you purchase their produce, you are supporting Organic, Local Farmers. 

Meat, Seafood, Dairy and Eggs

We know the farmers and have toured the facilities. Animal welfare is paramount. Animals get to be animals, with room to roam.

All of our meat, dairy and eggs are antibiotic and hormone free. Organic options, where possible. Our grass fed beef is Alberta-raised; grassfed on free range pasture free of pesticides and insecticides; and handled with care. 

Community Natural Foods is a Ocean Wise certified retailer. We prioritize the purchase of sustainable seafood and we clearly label all Ocean Wise products. Sustainable Seafood are species that are caught or farmed in a way that ensures the long-term health and stability of that species, as well as the greater marine ecosystem.

We have long standing relationships with many of our supplement providers and have toured their facilities and often their farms! You will never find anything artificial, including colours, preservatives, flavours, or sweeteners in our supplements. Quality of ingredients is essential so our category managers scrutinize the formulation, absorption potential and potency.

Bulk

We carry over 250 bulk items including the largest selection of bulk medicinal herbs in the city; a great selection of alternative sweeteners, flours, and keto/paleo baking mixes; and bulk cleaning, beauty and culinary liquids.

Did you know? We have offered Bring Your Own Container since we opened back in 1977. You can bring your own clean bags and containers to fill up with any of our bulk products. By bringing your own container you're doing your part to reduce packaging waste. For every container you bring to fill with bulk items, you will receive a 2 cent credit that you can choose to donate to our monthly local charity. Community Natural Foods matches Change for the Earth token donations each month.
