Community Natural Foods has always been a place of community, connection, and wellness, welcoming Albertans for more than 40 years. We are dedicated to encouraging our customers and members to live a healthier, more natural life and strive to support the health and well-being of our communities.

Local Community Giving

We deeply value giving back. Annually Community Natural Food provides in-kind and financial support to a variety of local grassroots events and non-profit organizations. In-Store Donations & Caring for Our Community

We support a variety of local organizations that support a wide range of initiatives such as food access for the people of Calgary and Edmonton, with contributions to The Calgary and Edmonton Food Banks, The Calgary and Edmonton chapters of The Mustard Seed, and The Alex Community Food Centre.

We’re proud to continue supporting local organizations through various in-store initiatives. This has included:

Scan Away Homelessness to support the Mustard Seed Calgary and Edmonton chapters.

A till donation program in Edmonton to support the “Sustain Fringe Campaign” for the Edmonton Fringe Festival.

$5 till donations for The Alex Community Food Centre to help get fresh fruits and vegetables to Calgarians, and proceeds from our For the Love of the Earth enamel pins and Giving Toques in support of The Alex Community Food Centre.

Food donations to the Calgary Food Bank and Calgary Veterans Association Food Bank, as well as a food waste rescue program with The Leftovers Foundation in Edmonton and Calgary that helps to find homes for edible but unsellable food products to those in need.

We have proceeds going to the Calgary & Edmonton Food Banks from sales of our monthly café featured beverages. We participate in YYC Hot Chocolate Fest annually, in support of Meals on Wheels.

Over the years we have supported our LGBTQ2S+ community with various donations raised during Pride Week. We partnered with our vendor community to offer proceeds from products sold to benefit the Skipping Stone Foundation in Calgary and the YESS Foundation in Edmonton, with CNF matching all donations. In 2019, we hosted our first-ever Drag Beauty Night, with proceeds going to the Skipping Stone Foundation.

The Annual Canadian Holistic Nutrition Conference; Organic Alberta Conference; The Calgary & Edmonton Folk Music Festivals; Calgary & Edmonton Pride Festivals; Edmonton Fringe Festival; Calgary VegFest; Best of Calgary; Feeding the 5000; Calgary Zero Waste Festival; Calgary International Film Festival, Calgary & Edmonton Celiac Association events, Wild Rose Triathlons, Alberta Beekeepers Association Conference; and the Western Apicultural Society Conference.  

Change for the Earth:

Community Natural Foods kicked off the Change for the Earth Program on Earth Day 2012. We updated the program in 2019 to include all bags and containers, calling it BYOC (Bring Your Own Container). Customers received a 2-cent credit for every bag and container they filled during their shop, which was donated to our local charity of the month, representing PEOPLE, COMMUNITY, and PLANET organizations. Community Natural Foods matched all funds raised, effectively making that 2-cent credit 4 cents.

We concluded the program on June 30, 2024, after donating over $225,000 and supporting over 300 grassroots charities in Alberta. Through this program, we have not only encouraged our shoppers to adopt eco-friendly practices such as bringing their own bags and containers but also provided them with an avenue to contribute positively to the welfare of our planet and community.
