Orange Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Chocolate and orange have become a festive flavour combination, and it’s easy to add grated orange zest—from any variety of orange, including mandarins (though you may need two mandarins’ worth of zest) to the dough of a classic chocolate chunk cookie. If you’re a traditionalist, leave the orange zest out

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • Finely grated zest of 1 orange
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (or so) chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips (or a chopped dark chocolate orange)

How To Make It
  1. Preheat the oven to 350˚F
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter, sugars and orange zest for a few minutes, until pale and light. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Add the flour, baking soda and salt and beat on low speed (use a paddle attachment if you have one) or stir by hand until almost combined; add the chocolate and stir just until blended
  3. Drop by the scoop or large spoonful onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until deep golden around the edges but still soft in the middle. Transfer to a wire rack to cool
