CNF Family Farms: Amiable Organics

Share

Amiable Organics is a small family farm operated by Angie & Josh Mans. Josh is a next generation farmer, his family started the iconic Alberta dairy farm Vital Greens.

Amiable Organics came alive in 2016, when the farm on which Josh grew up, offered up some of their land for a small trial to grow leeks. This past year they relocated to their own plot of land.

They are inspired by sustainability and regenerative agriculture & interplant their crops so that nature can function the way it was meant to and as a result, they hope to face less weed pressure, see soil organic matter increase, worm populations thrive & have higher insect diversity.

Plant health is a reflection of soil health. To improve soil health, they apply compost, plant cover crops, and add minerals to correct deficiencies. This ensures the highest quality and nutrient density of their produce.

Fun Fact: Chickens clean up around the gardens and provide soil fertility. They love eating grasshoppers and other pests, so Amiable uses livestock as part of their integrated pest management program. Cows are also used to keep the pastures around the gardens trimmed.

We at Community Natural Foods are so appreciative that we get to offer our customers their Alberta grown Beets, Celery, Celeriac, Dandelion Greens, Fennel, Green Onions, Kohlrabi, Leeks, Lettuces & Herbs.
