Howard and Cornelius Leffers have been at the helm of the family farm since 1990, carrying on their parents’ legacy with a focus on sustainability and organic farming. Located just north of Coaldale, Alberta, their 500-acre farm thrives in the region’s ideal soil and climate, which are particularly suited for growing high-quality produce. The brothers made the transition to organic farming in 2002, gradually converting their fields and achieving full organic certification for their vegetables by 2005.
Each year, the Leffers dedicate at least 20 acres of their farm to carrots, which are harvested in late summer as temperatures begin to cool. These carrots are renowned for their crisp texture and sweet flavor, a testament to the farm’s rich soil and the brothers’ dedication to producing exceptional crops. In addition to carrots, the farm grows a variety of organic crops, including winter cereals, alfalfa, edible beans, red and gold beets, and even a small patch of black currants.
The Leffers are committed to sustainable farming practices, focusing on soil health and crop diversity to ensure the land remains productive for future generations. Their mission is deeply rooted in supporting the local community, prioritizing fresh, locally grown food for consumers in southern Alberta. By specializing in a select range of crops, Howard and Cornelius have built a reputation for producing high-quality organic produce that reflects their dedication to excellence and environmental stewardship.
