The Finnish tradition of enjoying rye crisps stretches back to 1849 when the VAASAN Group established the first steam mill in Finland. The mill grained rye flour, which was then given to breadmakers. In the hands of experienced bakers, that bread became Finn Crisp, which made its public debut at the 1952 Summer Olympics.
